Ullapool is a small, bonnie town that sits on the shores of Loch Broom on the west coast of the Highlands. In the old days it was a fishing village with its harbour being designed by Thomas Telford. Now it is a major transport hub with its ferry link to the Western isles, and is a popular stop off with visitors due to its amazing scenery and large number of services that are available.

Corrieshalloch translates to ‘Ugly Hollow’ in Gaelic, but there is nothing ugly about Corrieshalloch Gorge, a deep tree-shrouded chasm and beauty spot that cuts through a Highland wilderness rich in flora and fauna. Corrieshalloch is a slot gorge that was cut as far back as 2.6million years ago by Ice Age glacial meltwater. There are a number of trails as well as a Victorian suspension bridge that offers jaw dropping views of the gorge.

The Bone Caves

A beautiful and popular walk in a limestone valley to the dramatic bone caves. These cave openings part way up a the side of a valley are where the remains have been found of species such as lynx, reindeer and polar bear which once roamed here.
It is a straightforward walk, but it can be slippery when it is wet.

 An Talla Solais is the community-led art centre in Ullapool on the northwest coast of Scotland.  It hosts a wide range of exhibitions of contemporary art; organises classes, courses and events to enable people to connect with art. It makes for a great visit for those who are interested in art and getting to see some of the amazing pieces which are produced locally.

     

Summer Isles

The Isle of Tanera Mòr lies within the Summer Isles archipelago, just a mile off the Coigach Peninsula in the North-West Highlands of Scotland. It’s a beautiful and remote place and feels far from the rush and clamour of modern life, but the Island is surprisingly accessible witha  45 min sail from Ullapool – majority of sailors tend to anchor West of the North pier.
