Top sailing photographer Marc Turner is back with our ever-growing photography competition, looking at why people #MustSeaScotland !

In 2018, Marc asked you to show him what makes Scotland’s waters a “must see” for every sailor, and wow did you deliver…

The response was so big again this year that Marc and the judges again shortlisted the entries in three categories: Landscape & Light, On the Water, and Wildlife.

He said: “The entries have been just stunning across all categories again, and choosing our finalists gets harder and harder each year. As you can see, all of our finalists were wonderful and our three eventual winners each have something really special about them.”

Our 2019 Photographer of the Year, Chris Bashforth, certainly captured something special in his shot of ‘A green jewel in a peacock sea’. Marc said: “Chris has captured such as vibrant, rich, colourful panorama showing a lovely anchorage off the West Coast in summer. Looking out and seeing this is exactly what people dream of when they decide to sail Scotland.”

Talking about John Sproat’s atmospheric shot of Boreray and Stac Lee, Marc said: “Wow! St Kilda has become a real destination for sailors and given such a dramatic landscape you can see why. The desaturated tones work so well in this setting.”

“And Raymond Watson’s shot of a gannet feeding her young is just lovely. Sharp and a beautiful composition between them that is very emotive.”

“This year has really raised the bar yet again, and with Scotland’s Year of Coasts & Waters coming up in 2020 the hunt is on for our next winner. I want to see what makes our coasts and waters so special – the people, the places, the wildlife that makes Scotland’s sailing so fantastic… get snapping and show me something that makes me want to be behind that lens myself.”
