Following a competition run by Sail Scotland and Musto, Scotland’s iconic first generation clipper 60 ocean racing yacht Clyde Challenger welcomed the winners onboard for a weekend with champagne sailing on the Clyde. The winners, all from the south coast of England, arrived on a Friday evening in mid-September with the weekend starting with dinner, supported by The Chartroom in Kip Marina.
Leaving from Kip Marina on Saturday morning, sailing started after the normal safety brief and yacht history with some of Scotland’s famous precipitation and a great breeze for a beat down to Largs. A quick stop for lunch allowed guests to enjoy the hospitality of Scott’s who also supported the event.
Enjoying a great run up Loch Fyne the guests got to experience why the West Coast, just days later was awarded ‘Worlds Best Cruising Ground’ in the Sailing Today awards, voted for by readers. With strong gusts, becoming becalmed and experiencing the thrill of sailing an ocean racing yacht guests were thrilled, if not a little tired upon arrival at the pontoon.
Not to disappoint the world’s best cruising ground produced the kind of weather reserved for warmer climes for the return trip to Kip marina which was taken through the stunning Kyles of Bute. In a year that has seen Scotland’s Clipper 60 tick some great West Coast bucket list sailing trips the Sail Scotland Musto weekend certainly did not disappoint for both guests and crew.
