Motor along from Rhu Marina to Helensburgh Pier – see the town from a whole new perspective – then circle round the Sugar Boat and hear about the history of this iconic feature.
Faslane from the Sea
View Faslane & the Rosneath Peninsula from the water as you travel up the Gareloch, a different and unaccustomed viewpoint. Spot and identify the various naval vessels you may see on your journey. PLEASE NOTE: Naval manoeuvres may occasionally mean that this trip is rerouted via Helensburgh Shoreline to the Sugar Boat at very short notice.
2 Hour Boat Trips
Port Glasgow Shipyards and the Sugar Boat
Get a unique view of Greenock, Greenock Ocean Terminal, Port Glasgow and the shipyards from the river. This trip enters the Upper Clyde at Greenock Ocean Terminal and heads past James Watt Dock, Port Glasgow and the now infamous Ferguson Marine shipyard before returning to Rhu with a detour via the Sugar Boat wreck on the way home.
3 Hour Boat Trips
Cloch Lighthouse & The Gantocks,
Pass close by the Cloch Lighthouse (a wonderful photo opportunity) and circle the Gantocks, a small cluster of rocks just south of Dunoon. You should be able to spot seabirds, seals, maybe porpoises, and more!
Kip Marina, with time ashore,
Pass the Cloch Lighthouse and continue south to Kip Marina, Scotlands first marina, now with over 600 berths. You will have about an hour ashore when you can visit Kip’s Charthouse restaurant, the marina coffee shop or just wander around and watch all the activity.
Holy Loch Marina, with time ashore,
Travel westwards past Kilcreggan to the sheltered waters of the Holy Loch, which was used as an American base from 1961-1992. You will have about an hour ashore to visit the marina cafe, go for a walk, or just sit on the benches next to the marina office and watch all the boat activity.
Four Piers Tour,
Visit four piers, Helensburgh, Craigendoran, Kilcreggan and Blairmore, and learn about the history of these, the Clyde Steamers, and the 14 other piers (approx.) constructed in this area in the 19th century
Coulport, Finnart & Glenmallan,
This trip takes us up Loch Long, past the Coulport RNAD Depot and Finnart Oil Terminal, which connects by pipelines across Scotland to Grangemouth, and onwards to Glen Mallan jetty, where the loch is so deep that aircraft carriers can moor against the shore.
4 Hour Boat Trips
Erskine Bridge
Cross the Firth of Clyde towards Greenock, then follow the narrow dredged channel of the Clyde eastwards, past Dumbarton Rock under the Erskine Bridge and up to the Titan Crane, and back. You are very welcome to bring a snack or packed lunch with you.
