Selkie Explorers Sailing

Selkie Explorers Sailing

Come sailing aboard Selkie, a unique, 15m aluminium cruising yacht with lifting keel, designed to go anywhere, do anything. Already tried and tested in Antarctic and tropical waters, she is now based on the Isle of Eigg where her owner and skipper Celia Bull runs a croft. As a climber and sailor, Celia has spent her life exploring remote and beautiful areas. We offer year-round sailing trips in Scotland for the adventurous, the creative and the curious voyager.

There's an exciting variety of trips programmed for 2019. Our main season starts in April with our beautiful slow adventure Wellness sail. We have developed this voyage over the past few years and combine movement, meditation, healthy delicious food while sailing and exploring around  the Small Isles and surrounding areas.

In May we are offering some inspiring voyages collaborating for 2 of them with highly reputable Geologist and Photographers. Our Geosail with Angus Miller as our guide, is focused on St Kilda. Wild Photography Holidays is also zooming in on this mighty St Kilda destination.

Later in May we are running the Selkie St Kilda explorer book-a-bunk, possibly two as the bunks are booking up quickly. So come with us to explore the remoter, wilder isles.

In June, July and August there are book-a-bunk trips to choose from which head to St Kilda, or closer to home around the inner Hebrides.  All our trips explore isolated, beautiful anchorages, watch out for the incredible marine wildlife, including some of the biggest bird and seal colonies in Europe. Prepare to enjoy walking and exploring these bays and islands, swimming, fishing, learning or honing your sailing skills, eating fine locally produced food and sharing stories with new friends.

Throughout the year we offer bespoke charter.  During the main season (May to August) these voyages are between 5 and 7 days in duration.  Outwith the season we can cater for shorter trips.

Trips usually depart from Mallaig, and are between five and seven days long. We plan to spend our final night on Eigg and fit in a visit to Celia's croft, where much of what you eat is raised and grown. Food is a big part of the Selkie Experience and you will enjoy venison from Rum, pheasant and duck from Muck, organic salmon from Andy Race in Mallaig. For the vegetarians among you, we have vegetables grown on the croft, eggs from Selkie chickens and award winning Scottish cheeses.

Winter sailing is a fabulous way to see the beautiful west coast at its most spectacular with snow on the hilltops. The experienced adventurer has the opportunity to enjoy skiing and winter climbing in remote locations accessible only by boat. For the uninitiated there is a wealth of walking and exploring to do. The winter lights and colours are second to none and there maybe the opportunity to see the northern lights.  Skipper and crew have a wealth of experience, both at sea and in the mountains, which we are happy to share to help you realise your dreams. We enjoy activities in the cold but love to be comfortable so besides the warm welcome, you’ll find there are radiators in every cabin and a big refleks stove in the saloon.

We look forward to sharing a Selkie Adventure with you.
