Jock Wishart to Speak at SMTC

Date published: 08 February 2019

With less than a month until the big day, and tickets selling fast, legendary maritime adventurer and yachtsman, Jock Wishart, has signed up to speak at Scotland's Marine Tourism Conference on Wednesday 6th March 2019.

Jock’s reputation for developing successful teams and leading expeditionary projects to victory is virtually unrivalled. Within the space of 18 months, he rowed the Atlantic, led the crew which set new world speed records for powered circumnavigation, led the team that broke the London to Paris rowing record and is the only man to have walked unsupported to a Pole and rowed across an ocean.

Double Olympic Gold-Medallist & Sail Scotland Ambassador, Shirley Robertson OBE, said: "It's clear that Jock Wishart is hard-wired to succeed. Whether it is something that came from his robust Scottish childhood or simply his dogged determination, it is quite extraordinary to have taken on the challenges he has and to have achieved them all."

Born in Dumfries, Jock has represented GB at rowing and yachting and is a veteran of the America’s Cup and European Dragon Boat Racing Champion. Early in his career he led the team that broke the Round Britain powerboat record and in 1992 he was as a member of the first team to walk unsupported to the Geomagnetic North Pole. Four years later, he organised The Ultimate Challenge, the first ever televised trek to the Magnetic North Pole.

And in 2018, he added further to these achievements, leading a Scots-dominated team to win one of sailing’s most prestigious trophies – The Commodores Cup.

Hear his inspirational story in his own words at Scotland's Marine Tourism Conference on 6th March 2019 at The Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock.
