Mark has been brought up around boats with his Grandfather operating a charter company on the Scottish West Coast in the 1980’s he apparently took a keen personal interest in all that floats as soon as he was old enough to walk.

This interest in all things nautical naturally lead him down the path of a career in the marine industry. After school he completed a practical workshop based Boat Building College course in Greenock while working part-time at Kip Marina before moving to Southampton; completing a degree in Yacht Manufacturing & Surveying. After finishing education it wasn’t long before he started looking for opportunities to move back to Scotland and the West Coast.

Since 2002 Mark has been employed by Ardfern Yacht Centre Ltd starting off in the workshop management team before being appointed General Manager in 2009. The busy marina and yard at Ardfern attracts cruising sailors from around the globe and provides a unique insight as to the requirements of the visiting sailor. Mark realises the benefits that can be realised by a co-operative approach to promoting sailing in Scotland.
