Educated at Glasgow Caledonian, thereafter five years training in a professional Accountants office before joining HLP in 1982.
The employment with HLP provided experience in the Tourism industry through the Groups three Holiday Parks, three Marinas, and variously Skibo Castle and their holiday cottages, Isle of Gigha holiday cottages and Hotel, and Craobh Marina holiday cottages.

The groups other concerns included farming with units at Skibo Castle Estate, Perth, Surrey and three farms in South Africa. Involvement in fish farming with Salmon on Gigha in 90’s and currently with the Award winning Gigha Halibut.
On the Group’s and also the Founder’s behalf sales and purchases of businesses and properties both foreign and domestic became a major occupation. This included nearly a year of personal involvement on the sale of the Isle of Gigha, the first sale under the Land Reform Scotland Act.

Now nearly four decades plus with the group, a varied experience was gained through involvement with Television documentaries, Race horse stud, Livestock and arable farming, Wine Farms, Property development, Commercial and residential Property leasing, Bars and Restaurants, Works of Art, Antiques, rare books and other extraneous ventures.
He is also President of Inverclyde Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of Riverside Inverclyde the local URC and board member of Sir Gabriel Woods Mariners Home.
