Alasdair brings over 30 years’ experience in high-profile marketing and communications roles in Scotland’s private and public sectors to his position on the Sail Scotland Board.

From overseeing the launch of the Glasgow Science Centre to driving the renaissance of Scotland’s canals, Alasdair has played a key role in some of the nation’s most exciting tourism projects. Responsible for developing the brand and marketing strategy for The Kelpies – the world’s largest equine sculptures – and transforming The Falkirk Wheel into one of Scotland’s key tourism attractions through worldwide marketing campaigns, as well as boosting transit numbers through the Crinan and Caledonian Canals, he has extensive experience of marine-based tourism.

Since leaving Scottish Canals in early 2016, Alasdair has acted as Chief Creative Officer of marketing agency We Do Fruition, using his experience on monumental projects such as The Kelpies to help businesses throughout the UK connect with their customers. Whether through crafting creative brand strategies, kickstarting stellar social media campaigns, or building bespoke websites, We Do Fruition specialises in working with small to medium businesses with ambitions to grow.

As well as working with smaller businesses, Alasdair has also continued to advise on marketing strategies for internationally-celebrated landmarks. We Do Fruition recently led on the rebranding of the UK National Parks partnership, bringing together 15 world-renowned national parks from all over the country and developing an umbrella brand to represent them.

A member of the Sail Scotland Board since 2014, Alasdair has overseen the growth in the organisation’s digital presence, making the most of the myriad of digital tools now available without losing sight of the passion and people that make sailing Scotland such a unique – and incredible – experience.
