Eda Frandsen offers the finest traditional sailing in the Western Isles of Scotland, in Cornwall, Brittany and the West Country.

Join us for a traditional hands on sailing holiday onboard our beautiful 56ft gaff cutter and experience a real sense of ‘getting away from it all’. Combine some of the finest sailing grounds with spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, fantastic food, explorations ashore and great company for a truly memorable adventure.

We are a fun and friendly crew, with a relaxed and sociable atmosphere onboard. Each morning we will set sail to a new destination, find a secluded anchorage or bay for the night. Our plan for the week is flexible, we go with the weather rather than fight it, meaning every trip is different. If you have any places you would like to visit we will do our best to include requests where possible.

“Thank you for the most wonderful week. Great weather, great sailing, great week… fantastic food and company. We have enjoyed this week so much, thanks.”    Jane and Graham July 2014

At 56ft on deck, 75ft overall and 15ft at her widest point Eda is a perfect sized vessel for charter. We sail with 8 voyage crew and a professional crew of skipper, mate and cook. With no winches aboard, we encourage everyone to join in as this is a truly hands on sailing experience, using block and tackle to hoist up to 2210sq ft of sail!

From Mallaig, the choices of places to explore are endless. The Outer Hebrides are easily reached within a day, while the Small Isles can be seen across the water. Skye is a few miles to the west and the isolated Knoydart peninsula is on our doorstep.  After a great day’s sail, perhaps walk ashore or relax with glass of wine enjoying the peace and tranquillity of our surroundings. Western Isles sailing at its best!

“Excellent seven days to remote dolphin bays, puffin and seal filled beaches and sunny weather and good wind. Nicest surprise the superb cooking. Thanks so much Becky James and Chloe. Hope to join you again some time.” Ash, May 2013

Only 30 miles west of the mainland sits this idyllic chain of over 40 islands each with its own rich history and character. Eda finds her way into secluded lochs and inlets on the eastern shores, discovering secluded anchorages surrounded by dramatic mountains that are accessible only by boat. Spectacular beaches, bays and rugged landscapes are found on the wild, western coast which are well worth a visit. The islands are rich with birds and wildlife, boasting three National Nature Reserves and bird sanctuaries. Marine life is abundant too, with regular sightings of whale, dolphins, seals and basking sharks year round.

From the mountainous landscapes of Harris to the endless beaches of South Uist and Vatesay, Eda is usually the only boat in an anchorage. Some of our favourite places include Mingulay, Wizard’s Pool on South Uist or the beautiful anchorage between Helisay and Gighay, however we regularly explore new places every voyage.

After fantastic sailing, perhaps step ashore for a walk, or relax on the deck with a good book and a glass of wine, followed by a great dinner. Sleep well with the water underneath the hull and stars above.

The areas we sail in are abundant in bird and marine life including good opportunities to spot whales, dolphins, basking sharks eagles and large colonies of seabirds.

Eda has lovely wide decks, plenty of seating areas and a quirky saddle to sit astride when steering. The gleaming varnished woodwork and beautiful original features are hard to miss. She is incredibly seaworthy and stable in stronger winds, yet with all 5 sails set in lighter airs is still quick and graceful through the water.

This was a once in a lifetime experience for us. The entire trip was a highlight with no one experience usurping the other. The Canadian prairies will never look the same again! Gordon and Sheila, August 2014

More enjoyable than can be easily explained! Eda is a marvel of a boat, though I think I should bulk up before pitting myself against the main sheet again! A blessing on the boat and all who sail her. Andrew, April 2013

Fantastic voyage. Really friendly folk and crew. Loved every minute, Champion cooking. Best Wishes, Thank  you. Trevor, August 2014
